Freetime Activities
The beauty and the rich nature of the Spreewald biosphere reserve can be experienced any season of the year. The river Spree – a widely ramified delta of channels. A punt is floating along silently. Expanse and silence. Finally, you can escape the stresses of your daily routines. A vast number of paths and cycle ways are crossing the countryside like a spiderweb. Enough space to get active, but also for relaxation. Observe animals and marvel at seldom plants. Take a rest at the Bismarck-Tower. The prospect allows you to take a long view. On the waterways you can explore the Spreewald individually in a canoe.
Get to know the residents of the Spreewald. Bilingualism, colourful costumes, customs and traditions – the home of the Sorbs/Wends. The past and presence of the smallest of the Slavic-tribes can be experienced at the local museum in Dissen and at the “Heimatstube” in Burg. Traditional customs are maintained all year long: “Zampern” (people dress up in costumes, walk from door to door and ask for food in return for singing a song), painting Easter eggs, plucking a cock. Numerous festivals and shows give you a feeling of the local lifestyle.
